Bad Day At Black Rock

Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) is a thriller film directed by John Sturges that combines elements of Westerns and film noir. It tells the story of a mysterious stranger who arrives at a tiny isolated town in a desert of the southwest United States in search of a man.

It stars Spencer Tracy, Robert Ryan, Anne Francis, Dean Jagger, Walter Brennan, John Ericson, Ernest Borgnine and Lee Marvin. The movie was adapted by Don McGuire and Millard Kaufman from the story Bad Day at Hondo by Howard Breslin.

Bad Day at Black Rock, based on a smart, propulsive script by Don McGuire and Millard Kaufman, precedes the epic grandeur of Sturges's The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven but it synthesizes and streamlines the explosive action sequences and steely intelligence that the director showed off in those films. Urgency and an unyielding tension are built into every single scene, and when things erupt -- as they do in a brilliantly choreographed fight scene in the town diner between Tracy and Borgnine

Kerry Wood

The Yankees finished a frenzied two days of trading Saturday by acquiring reliever Kerry Wood from the Cleveland Indians, bolstering their bullpen for the stretch run.

The move was finalized not long before Saturday's 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline and just hours after the Yankees made official their trade with the Houston Astros for slugger Lance Berkman. They also acquired outfielder Austin Kearns in from the Indians late Friday night.

Put together, the moves give the Yankees a full-time designated hitter, another late-inning relief option and more bench depth, all for a pittance. For Mr. Berkman, a five-time All-Star, the Yankees gave up Triple-A reliever Mark Melancon and Class A infielder Jimmy Paredes, neither of whom were among their top prospects.

In the deals for Messrs. Wood and Kearns, the Yankees agreed to send the Indians a player to be named later or cash. Apparently, sending Cleveland a ham sandwich was not allowed.

Mr. Berkman joined the Yankees here for their game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night and started at designated hitter, batting second. Mr. Kearns also arrived at Tropicana Field before the game but was not in the starting lineup. Mr. Wood was said to be on his way here from Toronto, where the Indians are playing this weekend, but it wasn't clear when he would arrive. None of the three players represent blockbuster additions. But for the Yankees (65-37), who already have the best record in baseball, they represent upgrades in the few areas of need that they had.

"These guys have track records," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "As I approached the deadline here, I was looking to secure players who were upgrades over what we currently have. We feel that all of these do that. We wanted to protect the farm system to the highest level we could. I think we've done that."

To make room for their new players, the Yankees designated reliever Chan Ho Park for assignment and optioned outfielder Colin Curtis and designated hitter Juan Miranda to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

They also moved rehabbing reliever Alfredo Aceves to the 60-day disabled list, but that was strictly an administrative move to clear room on the 40-man roster. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Mr. Berkman would be the team's primary designated hitter, with Nick Johnson's return from a wrist injury nowhere in sight. Mr. Girardi had used the DH spot to give some of his regulars a break from playing the field but said now, if position players need a rest, they'll get a full day off instead. Mr. Berkman, 34, is in the midst of one of his worst seasons, batting just .245 with 13 homers entering Saturday. But after leaving Houston, where he had spent his entire career, Mr. Berkman said he felt reinvigorated by being thrust into the middle of a pennant race.

"I never thought in a million years it would happen, being a lifelong Houston Astro," he said. "I didn't think that a set of circumstances would come along to make this happen. But I'm very glad to be here."

Mr. Berkman found himself at a sold-out ballpark in a game between the top two teams in baseball Saturday. Had he remained in Houston, he said, "I'd be going up to play the Milwaukee Brewers and there's like 10 people in the stands." As much as Mr. Berkman might help the offense, the addition of Mr. Wood could prove even more beneficial.

Joba Chamberlain has been unreliable as the Yankees' setup man and lost his grip on the eighth-inning job earlier this week. Mr. Wood will not be handed that job immediately, but he will be in the mix.

When asked if Mr. Wood could be the Yankees' setup man, Mr. Girardi said, "He's been a closer. He could be. He's one of those guys that has that kind of stuff."

Mr. Girardi caught Mr. Wood when they were teammates with the Chicago Cubs in the early 2000s. Mr. Wood's injury problems over the years are well-known. He was activated from the disabled list Saturday after missing the last couple weeks because of a blister on his right index finger.

The 33-year-old right-hander has a 6.30 ERA in 23 games this season, but his ERA was inflated by a few particularly bad outings in May. Since the beginning of June, Mr. Wood has allowed just five earned runs in 12 2/3 innings (3.55 ERA).

At the very least, he is an upgrade over Mr. Park, who had a 5.60 ERA in 29 appearances this year. Mr. Park's control was so bad in mop-up duty in Cleveland on Thursday that Mr. Girardi went out with a trainer to make sure he wasn't injured. Mr. Kearns, 30, gives the Yankees a better option than Curtis Granderson against left-handed pitchers.

Mr. Kearns is a career .261 hitter against lefties, while Mr. Granderson has hit just .211 against them. When the Yankees face left-handed starting pitchers, Mr. Kearns will likely start in left field and Brett Gardner will move to center field in place of Mr. Granderson.

Rick Ankiel

For the first time since 2008, the Kansas City Royals hit a walk off home run to win a game.  Alex Gordon would hit a three run home run in the bottom of the ninth and Kansas City beat Baltimore, 7-5.  The win stopped the five game losing streak for the Royals.

Things started very well for Kansas City as they would put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first.  Rick Ankiel would drive in one with a double, while Wilson Betemit’s single would plate two more runs.

The Orioles would score single runs in the second, third and sixth to tie the game at three.  The Royals would break the time in the bottom half of the sixth on a Luke Scott sac fly that would score Rick Ankiel.

In the eighth, Baltimore would regain the lead as they would score two runs.  With no answer from the Royals in the eighth, it looked as if they would be headed to their sixth straight loss.  That was until the bottom of the ninth.

A walk by Ankiel and a hit by Betemit would set the plate for Gordon.  With two out, he would blast a shot over the right field wall to give the win for the Royals.  This was the first walk off home run for Kansas City since July 12th of 2008 against Seattle.

Sean O’ Sullivan would pick up his first Major League win.  He would go six innings, giving up three runs on four hits.

Game three of the four game series will be tonight as Zack Greinke gets the start for Kansas City against Baltimore’s Brad Bergesen.

Laurence Fishburne's daughter Montana Fishburne is said trying to pursue acting career just like her father. However, Montana is reportedly making a serious push to break into Hollywood with a hardcore sex tape.

TMZ reported that Montana is starring in a porno flick for Vivid Entertainment, the company who released Kendra Wilkinson's infamous video. As quoted by the site, the 18-year-old beauty explained, "I've watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape."

While Kim was upset that her sex tape became widely known, Montana is not arguing that her tape was stolen or obtained illegally. According to the site, Montana's sex tape is set to be released in August. Additionally, CarltonJordan.com reported that Montana was spotted with male pornstar Brian Pumper out in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, July 28.

Laurence has not yet released any statement concerning his daughter's choice. Laurence himself has been credited for his role in several movies like "The Matrix Reloaded", "The Matrix Revolutions", "Mystic River" and "Mission: Impossible 3".

Palmdale Fire

The latest wildfire to hit Los Angeles County early Friday is known as Crown fire. It has affected some parts of Leona Valley, Ritter Ranch, Anaverde and Palmdale. Fire officials said that the fire has burned more than 5,000 acres. Hundreds of firefighters were trying to control the blaze and nearly 2000 residences had undergone “mandatory evacuations”.
Earlier this week, firefighters battled two wildfires that hit Southern California. The first fire known as the Bull Fire, hit the southeast part of Tehachapi. Authorities confirmed that the Bull Fire is now 12 percent contained and destroyed more than 16,000 acres. The second fire was in the northern part of Tehachapi in Sequoia National Forest and is known as the West Fire. It burned and destroyed 25 homes.
Spokeswoman Michelle Puckett of the U.S. Bureau of Land warned residents to keep their cars and house windows closed to prevent smoke inhalation.

Freegan

Today's Oprah show about frugal people across the nation included "freegans." I did a blog a few weeks back about freegans, people who basically dumpster dive for everything, including food. They're pretty political about the whole thing and take the stance that we over consume as a nation.
While I'm not willing to become a freegan, and while I don't go out of my way to pick up stuff off the side of the road, I have done it once or twice. Once I was passing someone who'd had a garage sale the day earlier and was tossing some of the stuff that didn't sell. One of the items was a perfectly good toddler booster seat that would run at a minimum of $40 at a store. I saw it, swooped it up, took it home and cleaned it up. I'm still using it to this day. I also found a good high chair once that I picked up for a friend.
I have friends that purposely troll around looking for "good stuff" thrown out to pick up.
What's the best free thing you've ever found on the side of the road?
Would you be willing to "garbage pick" something that you might be able to use or would you rather be caught dead?

Brett Wallace

“One of the fastest players in the game, Gose swiped 70 bags last year. He’s struggled on the bases this year, though, going just 36-for-63. Very young for his level, he’s hitting .263/.325/.385, which isn’t bad given his age and the pitcher’s league in which he plays (the Florida State League is notoriously pitcher-friendly).
Gose has been compared to Carl Crawford for his speed, left-handed swing, and power potential. Some scouts think he could hit 20 homers down the line, and he’s already hit four this year after hitting just two last season. Gose also has 17 doubles and a whopping eleven triples.
In order to get better use of his speed, Gose does need to tighten up his strike zone. He’s whiffed 103 times this year and walked just 32. He needs to improve his approach, but at his age, he has time to do that.
Defensively, he’s also one of the best center fielders in the minors, so at the very least, he should be a valuable part-timer who saves tons of runs in center field with his stellar range and terrific arm.”

The Obvious

Brett Wallace was traded for the first time last deadline, from the Cardinals to the A’s. The A’s would then ship him to the Blue Jays over the offseason, and he’s now been moved again.
All the while, Wallace has had a reputation as one of the best pure hitters in the minors, but defensive concerns pushed him from third base to first base. Wallace, soon to be 24, was hitting .301/.359/.509 this year in Triple-A, and is a career .304/.375/.487 hitter in the minors. He hit 20 homers last year and has 18 this year.

Anna Fermanova

Anna Fermanova, a native of Latvia, was arrested on July 15 for attempting to smuggle night-vision scopes on a March 1 flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Russia, according to federal authorities.

Fermanova, a 24-year-old cosmetology student, allegedly violated the Arms Export Control Act after attempting to take $15,000 worth of high-tech equipment without proper export licenses to Russia, according to CNN.

Fermanova was allowed to complete her trip to Moscow, but was arrested after her return to suburban Plano, Texas. She was released the next day on $50,000 bail.

“Fermanova stated that she had purchased the scopes online,” an affidavit pertaining to her arrest warrant read.

When questioned about the federal regulations related to night-vision equipment, Fermanova told Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents that she had “signed something about that” but was unsure of “what she was signing,” according to the affadavit.

Scott Palmer, Fermanova’s attorney in Dallas, maintains that his client was not involved in espionage.

"There's no terrorist connection," Palmer told CNN. "She is not a spy. The items were intended to be sold to a family friend for hunting purposes."

Fermanova – who will be arraigned in New York, where the equipment was confiscated – intends to plead not guilty, Palmer said.

Palmer will not rule out the possibility of negotiating a plea with the government, he said.

Former child TV star Lance Kerwin has been placed on five years probation after pleading guilty to a theft charge.
Kerwin, who played the title role in "James at 15" on NBC in the 1977-78 season, was given credit during last Thursday's sentencing for 90 days served and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service for the second-degree theft charge.
Kauai County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lauren McDowell says the 49-year-old Kerwin was caught falsifying documents to obtain state medical assistance and food stamps.
Defense attorney Craig De Costa says when Kerwin applied for the benefits, he omitted in the application that he owned three properties on the mainland.
Kerwin, a pastor at Calvary Chapel in Kapaa and a U-Turn for Christ program leader, said he has already paid $21,822 in restitution.
"I'm sorry," Kerwin said before being sentenced. "The last thing I want to do is to make a statement to minimize what I have done."
Kerwin said his actions affected the community, his fellow church members and his children, and added he hoped his punishment can have a positive effect in his life.
His wife, Yvonne Kerwin, 28, requested a deferred acceptance of her guilty plea for second-degree theft and two counts of unsworn falsification to authorities. She left court with a record that will remain clean if she stays out of trouble with the law. She will also have to pay crime victim compensation fees and complete 300 hours of community service.

Tamera Mowry has gotten engaged for the second time to Fox News correspondent Adam Housley. Guess things didn’t work out with Hosea Chanchez.

“Adam proposed to Tamera last week in Italy,” a source close to the couple tells E! News. “They were engaged a few years ago, but broke it off. They have been dating on and off for the past year and now he has put a ring on her finger once again.”

Apparently her family doesn’t like him.  “Her family is not crazy about him,” the source says. “Tia and Adam don’t always get along, but the couple are happy together and giving it another try.”

They are getting ready to move in together. “They haven’t started planning the wedding but it will most likely be at his family’s vineyard in Napa.”

That’s got to be hard when your twin does not get along with you fiance. Wish them luck.

Puma Punku

Over the years, the archeologists have discovered so many a great sites, that are a treat to the eyes as well as some that reflect upon our more civilized or somewhat non civilized past. The discoveries of such sites have always startled and astonished as well as some have haunted the men.
The current discovery is of a site in Bolivia that overmuch seems like a component part of an ancient temple. The area termed by the archeologists as the Puma Punku, contains so many of a stone structures that startles the today’s human being as to how come these stones can be arranged up in such a way in those ancient times.
The Puma Punku discovery is certainly a big one, as well as the most shocking thing about the stone structures that have n=been found in the Puma Punku is that they have been cut as well as shaped up in so much of a precise and accurate manner that we are kept astounded, as their was no such tools for achieving this were available in those times.

The Puma Punku discovery according to the archeologists, is a great one as they have uncovered a civilization that existed as per to them around seventeen thousand yrs ago and they at that time had got that sort of a preciseness, which currently can only be achieved by some really smart computer cutting devices.
Another fact that haunts the archeologists about the stones of Puma Punku is that how come that have been transported from the lake area to the place where they existed now. Well, we can only say that time will tell.

Marcus Wesson

Six years ago, Fresno became the scene of a notorious mass murder. Marcus Wesson is now on death row for killing nine of his children.

His victims included kids he fathered through incest. In a primetime special called "Family Secrets," the stories of the surviving Wesson family members, including Wesson's now ex-wife Elizabeth will be told.

Elizabeth Wesson's divorce became final two months ago. She says that was a symbolic closure for her. Marcus Wesson was a controlling part of her life since she was 8-years-old.

Her family's story is the focus of an hour-long special about how she and her children survived decades of mind control and how they are moving forward now.

Elizabeth Wesson says she didn't even begin to see the deep scars her former husband left on her and her children until several years after the horrific crime. "It feels like I'm coming out of a fog or something. It's taken me time to get where I'm at, it really has."

Tuesday night Elizabeth and her five surviving children share the pain they endured under the constant control of convicted killer Marcus Wesson.

Elizabeth says her family opened up and spoke candidly with correspondent Jay Schadler about what they did to cope with extreme physical and sexual abuse. "This is the first time ever they verbally expressed what they were going through. And it's gonna be hard for me to watch. Very hard."

The twisted life the family led under Wesson's domination came to a halt in March of 2004 when Fresno Police arrived at a domestic dispute at the family's Central Fresno home. After a brief standoff officers walked in to find nine bodies piled in a corner, all shot to death.

The murders ended a family secret the group hid for years. A life of beatings, insults and incest. Even today, sharing the way they existed is difficult.

"The questions, I wasn't prepared for the questions that they were asking you know I tried to answer as honestly as I could and it brought back a lot of memories that I really don't want to remember really."

As part of the story, the family returned to places they lived with Wesson ... Like Tomales Bay in Northern California. Although the family almost always lived together, they were isolated from the world. The journey reminded Elizabeth of the emotional scars her children will always carry.

"Seeing the pain on my children's faces. Because after we did the filming it took us about a week or two to get over that. Because it's really painful."

The first Fresno Police officer who arrived at the scene that day also talked about his experience. Eloy Escareno was the first to enter the home and confirm what other family members had already assumed.

Tantra Sexuality

Here is the complete guide of Tantra Sexuality, is every thing you need to know about Tantra Sexuality, and sexual energy. The Tantra Sexuality, is from India 6000 years ago, the Tantra is very often stressed in North America, is celebrated by a cult of ecstasy, the cult said a very good and ideal wedding of sexuality and spirituality that provides a much needed corrective.

The Tantra provide a sexual energy can be used to benefit health and reach enlightenment, Tantrism has influenced the Hindu, Sikh, Bon, Buddhist, and Jain religious traditions. Tantra in its various forms has existed in India, Nepal, China, Japan, Tibet, Korea, Cambodia, Burma, Indonesia and Mongolia.
Sexual rites of Vamamarga may have emerged from early Hindu Tantra as a practical means of catalyzing biochemical transformations in the body to facilitate heightened states of awareness. These constitute a vital offering to Tantric deities. Sexual rites may have also evolved from clan initiation ceremonies involving transactions of sexual fluids.
Here the male initiate is inseminated or ensanguinated with the sexual emissions of the female consort, sometimes admixed with the semen of the guru. The Tantrika is thus transformed into a son of the clan (kulaputra) through the grace of his consort. The clan fluid (kuladravya) or clan nectar (kulamrita) is conceived as flowing naturally from her womb. Later developments in the rite emphasize the primacy of bliss and divine union, which replace the more bodily connotations of earlier forms. Although popularly equated with Tantra in its entirety in the West, such sexual rites were historically practiced by a minority of sects. For many practicing lineages, these maithuna practices progressed into psychological symbolism.

The young star Justin Bieber is here with a new situation. Petraeus has Taken The Charge Of International Forces In Afghanistan

Gen. David Petraeus formally assumed command of the 130,000-strong international force in

Afghanistan on Sunday, declaring "we are in this to win" despite rising casualties and

growing skepticism about the nearly 9-year-old war.

Petraeus received two flags — one for the U.S. and the other for NATO — marking his formal

assumption of command during a ceremony at NATO headquarters,.

He said it was important to demonstrate to the Afghan people and world that al-Qaida and its

extremist allies will not be allowed to once again establish sanctuaries in Afghanistan from

which to launch attacks on the United States and other countries.

"We are in this to win," Petraeus told a crowd of several hundred NATO and Afghan officials

at the ceremony at a grassy area just outside coalition headquarters. "We have arrived at a

critical moment."

Petraeus said the change in command did not signal a radical shift in McChrystal's strategy

of making the protection of the Afghan people the focus of the military mission.

"Recent months in Afghanistan have seen hard fighting," he said. "As we press on in our

vital mission, we must continue our efforts to reduce the loss of innocent civilians to an

absolute minimum."

But Petraeus said he would examine the civilian and military mission "to determine where

refinements might be needed."

In a message to his troops, Petraeus said he would "not hesitate to bring all assets to bear

to protect you and the Afghan forces with which you are fighting shoulder to shoulder."

Ahmadinejad Reaction On U.S New Sanctions

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that new U.S sanction show that west does not

understand the Islamic Republic of Iran and "are aimed at preventing it  from becoming an

industrial state. But Iran has mastered the art of overcoming hurdles and "nothing can stop

the progress of our industry.
This speech made by him on saturday was the first reaction of Iran on U.S new sanctions on

Iran. Last week, the U.S senate and House of Representatives approved the sanctions over

Iran nuclear program.

Tehran claims the program is for peaceful purposes, but the United States and other Western

nations fear Iran is attempting to develop a nuclear weapon.
The U.S. sanctions target companies that sell refined petroleum products to Iran and

international banks that do business with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
"It makes it harder for the Iranian government to purchase refined petroleum and the goods,

services and materials to modernize Iran's oil and natural gas sector," Obama said Thursday.

"It makes it harder for the Revolutionary Guards and banks that support Iran's nuclear

programs and terrorism to engage in international finance. It says to companies seeking

procurement contracts with the United States government, 'If you want to do business with

us, you first have to certify that you're not doing prohibited business with Iran.'"
But Ahmadinejad said Saturday that "threats, political pressure and Western sanctions" were

aimed at hindering Iran, Press TV reported.
"We are all part of one family and should endeavor for Iran's progress," he said. Iran does

not seek world dominance and its diplomacy does not aim to infringe on other nations'

rights, Ahmadinejad said, according to Press TV.

And he warned that "Iran will teach its enemies an unforgettable lesson" if they do not

correct their hostile attitudes, Press TV said.
He spoke at a ceremony marking National Industry and Mine Day. The main focus of his speech

was that Iran's industrial exports have reached $18 billion in the past four months -- a

figure that, Ahmadinejad pointed out, came despite sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran

News Network reported.
"Four years ago you sanctioned Iran and our industrial export was $6 billion. How much is it

now? It's $18 billion," Ahmadinejad said, according to Press TV. "I have faith in your

capabilities; I want to tell them again, do you want to sanction Iran again? I promise you

that this $18 billion will be $60 billion by the hands of people sitting here, and it will

be a slap in their face."
Press TV said the sanctions "are aimed at exerting additional pressure on Iran, targeting

its dependence on imported petroleum products. Tehran, however, has announced that sanctions

will put no pressure on the country since it has the ability to meet its energy demands,

should the need arise."
In addition, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, made remarks Saturday during a

meeting with staffers of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
"The current era is a special one from a political perspective, and the great Iranian nation

will undoubtedly pass this difficult time," he said, according to Press TV. He also warned

against the "disgraceful lies" by Iran's enemies regarding democracy and human rights.

Google’s Rude Goldberg Machine logo that appears on their home page is the company’s special way of saying Happy 4th of July to all Americans.
A Rude Goldberg machine is usually a deliberately over-engineered project that uses a chain reaction of complex actions to actually perform a very simple task, like for example popping a balloon.

If you’re curious about its name, these type of machines are named after the American inventor and cartoonist Rube Goldberg.
Google’s special Rude Goldberg machine has a more patriotic theme and it celebrates the day when in 1776 the founding fathers adopted the Declaration of Independence.
This is not the first time the search giant uses animations or mini games on their home page. Back in May, when the classic Pac-Man game celebrated it’s 30th birthday, Google included a fully playable game that made tens of millions of users take a break from their regular work and give it a try.
