Rick Ankiel

For the first time since 2008, the Kansas City Royals hit a walk off home run to win a game.  Alex Gordon would hit a three run home run in the bottom of the ninth and Kansas City beat Baltimore, 7-5.  The win stopped the five game losing streak for the Royals.

Things started very well for Kansas City as they would put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first.  Rick Ankiel would drive in one with a double, while Wilson Betemit’s single would plate two more runs.

The Orioles would score single runs in the second, third and sixth to tie the game at three.  The Royals would break the time in the bottom half of the sixth on a Luke Scott sac fly that would score Rick Ankiel.

In the eighth, Baltimore would regain the lead as they would score two runs.  With no answer from the Royals in the eighth, it looked as if they would be headed to their sixth straight loss.  That was until the bottom of the ninth.

A walk by Ankiel and a hit by Betemit would set the plate for Gordon.  With two out, he would blast a shot over the right field wall to give the win for the Royals.  This was the first walk off home run for Kansas City since July 12th of 2008 against Seattle.

Sean O’ Sullivan would pick up his first Major League win.  He would go six innings, giving up three runs on four hits.

Game three of the four game series will be tonight as Zack Greinke gets the start for Kansas City against Baltimore’s Brad Bergesen.
