A 500-acre wildfire about 70 miles north of Los Angeles has prompted the evacuation of one small hill community and destroyed as many as 40 homes. Officials say the fire, about 10 miles southeast of Tehachapi (tuh-HATCH'-uh-pee), is being fanned by unpredictable winds and is still burning out of control.
