Mariana Islands region today suffered an earthquake measured at 7.2 magnitude, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred Friday August 13, 2010 at 21:19 UTC. The epicenter was 375 km WSW of Hagatna, Guam, 445 km WSW of Rota, Northern Mariana Islands, 485 km NE of Yap, Micronesia and 550 WSW of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands.

It is not yet clear whether or not the earthquake has caused any damage or killed any people in the Mariana Islands.

The Mariana Islands have a total of 389 square miles shared by two administrative units, Guam - a US territory and the Northern Marianna Islands including the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota - a commonwealth of the United States.

The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the Mariana Islands earthquake won't cause any destructive tsunami.
