The rookie quarterback was noted not only for his play in practice, but his hair shaved, the top of his head completely cut to leave a ring of hair that made him look like a monk.
Jokes of the veterans will play.
Tebow and the other rookies had their heads adorned with bizarre hairstyles before training and had to demonstrate during warm-ups when he could not hide under their helmets.
“I think all rookies had a great time with it,” Tebow said. “It was something to give everyone a laugh, something also to build chemistry.”
Tebow was not the only one to get a bad haircut. Receiver Eric Decker was equipped with engraved lines on your to do and left guard Zane Beadles wore a reverse Mohawk.
Offensive lineman Eric Olsen was able to save his long, dirty blonde locks loose on the back, but he is now bald on top, and tight end Nathan Overbay had a haircut half, the left side and sheared right side was left alone.
Tebow new look was hard to miss, especially with his coarse facial hair. When your image is shown on the big screen at Invesco Field before practice, the crowd burst into laughter.
He said linebacker Wesley Woodyard was the hairdresser responsible for cutting out some of their frustrations from college with razor (Woodyard was SEC rival Kentucky.)
“It was getting a few shots back of the days in college,” Tebow said, laughing.
Tebow not only stand out for their bad haircut. The first-round draft pick from Florida was well ahead of the home crowd, too, throwing on a 25-yard touchdown to Demaryius Thomas on the corner of the end zone. Tebow then ran down the field to celebrate with his fellow rookies.
“He went there and got it,” Tebow said. “Good for D.T.”
Later, in practice, Tebow made a move with his feet, scoring a touchdown short in a QB keeper.
“To go out there and play in the stadium for the first time was very exciting,” said Tebow. “To have a drive and try to run the offense was fun.”
After practice, fans enthusiastically took pictures of Tebow bad haircut, which quickly circulated on the Internet.
But it was all smiles Saturday as Eric Decker and Thomas joined the Broncos on his injured foot.
Thomas limped to the locker room with the trainers after injuring his left foot or ankle when he fell awkwardly after catching a touchdown pass from Brady Quinn.
Thomas broke his left foot during a pre-project training.
“So obviously, yes, that would be a concern, as it was the same foot. But we hope it will not be anything serious,” coach Josh McDaniels. “If I miss it for a while, it would be normal for this team.”
The Broncos have been hit with several injuries in training camp, starting with Elvis Dumervil sack leader. Dumervil may be out of the season after tearing a pectoral muscle and offensive tackle Ryan Clady injured his knee while playing pickup basketball in the offseason. Clady ended up needing surgery. Special teams star Darrell Reid had radical knee surgery this year, too.
Halfway through the first practice of training camp, tails Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) and Correll Buckhalter (back) went down minutes apart.
Decker, whose main season in Minnesota was cut short by a torn ligament in his left foot, left the field Saturday after injuring his left leg in a pre-finish line Saturday night and went for medical tests.
Decker limping much more cautious than Thomas.
Excluding Clady and Reid, 13 players, including star linebacker DJ Williams and the Pro Bowl, Brian Dawkins, have lost some time in camp so far for medical reasons and two players – receiver Kenny McKinley and safety Josh Barrett – have suffered season-ending injury.
