Blackhawks Parade

Yesterday Chicago Blackhawks had flown home in the early hours of the morning to bring back the Stanley Cup. There were celebrations on the streets of Chicago and it was obvious how much the win meant to the team, led by Jonathan Toews. The Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in 49 years.

The official Ticker Tape parade celebration takes place today, Friday June 11. Firstly the ticker tape parade will begin at 10:30 am CT starting at the intersection of Wacker Drive and Washington Street, going east to Michigan Avenue and then up to East Wacker Drive, according to Mioboo.com.

This will then merge for the Championship Rally beginning at 11:30 am CT. It’s anticipated that crowds will fill the street in jubilant scenes that will be broadcast live by ESPN3.com and ESPNChicago.com. There will be road closures and the executive director for the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, Megan McDonald, urged everybody to stay safe, keep hydrated and wear sunscreen.

For more on this and map go to Mioboo.com. Will you be attending the parade? What does it mean to the people of Chicago to see their team win the Stanley Cup? We’d be interested to hear your comments.
