The result of the game came as a surprise for many England supporters who’d seen Algeria as an easy opponent. In Group C Algeria are ranked fourth with one point, while England and the USA have two points and Slovenia is number one with four points.
The United States football, or soccer, team is now facing a similar destiny after their disappointing 2-2 draw to Slovenia.
For USA fans, victory has seemed a certainty, but American fans outside Ellis Park in Johannesburg seemed disappointed and angry after Friday’s result.
On Wednesday next week the USA will confront their last chance to stay in the game, if they do not beat Algeria their World Cup chances will be in severe jeopardy.
