Hood County Texas

GRANBURY, Texas, June 7 (UPI) -- Two or three people were reported missing after a massive explosion caused by a ruptured gas line Monday in Johnson County, Texas, officials said.

Hood County Fire Marshal Brian Fine told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the workers were missing after a work crew hit a gas pipeline while digging a trench. Officials urged residents to stay in their homes so emergency responders could have full access to the rural roads to the site.

"We can't get close. … We have to wait for the gas line to get shut off and wait for this fire to burn itself out," Fine said.

The exploded pipeline, which transits the state of Texas carrying high-pressure natural gas, belongs to Enterprise Products Partners.

"It looks like there is a possibility that a third party was involved; they may have hit our line," Enterprise spokesman Rick Rainey said.

Residents of nearby Pecan Plantation, a private golf community, reported windows rattled and homes shook from the explosion.

"The noise was unbelievable, just horrendous," said Ginger Zemanek, who reported seeing flames shooting "hundreds of feet into the air."
