 Most met Paul McCartney with cheers and applause when he was awarded the Library of CongressGershwin Prize for Popular Song last week, but now some Republican leaders are speaking out against the singer for a shot he took at former President George W. Bush.

At last week's White House ceremony, the former Beatle remarked, "It's a fantastic honor [for] the Gershwin family to give me this incredible award and for me to be awarded it by the Library of Congress. And in fact, after the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is."

Many responded to the quip with good cheer, but now GOP leaders are taking a stand.

"It was completely ungracious and undignified," said Fox News' Dana Perino, who served under Bush as his final White House press secretary. A speech-writer for Bush, Marc Thiessen, called the comment both "crass" and "rude."

McCartney has yet to respond to the jeers from the GOP.
