Nate Berkus

Chicago designer Nate Berkus is getting a curtain call on Tuesday's edition of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (pictured above) before heading off to his own New York-based syndicated talk show, set to debut in September on WMAQ-Ch. 5 and other stations around the country.

“It was eight years ago on our show that a young cutie pie decorator named Nate Berkus first stepped foot on this stage and we brought him here because of his incredible eye for style and we grew to love him for his big ol' heart," Winfrey says on her taped program, according to her Harpo Productions. "He taught millions of us how to love the way we live.  We're so proud of him.  Another son of the ‘Oprah’ show.  First it was Dr. Phil, and then Dr. Oz and now Nate.”
Winfrey can only hope Berkus' new show, a joint venture of her production company and Sony Pictures Television, is as successful as previous proteges Dr. Phil McGraw's "Dr. Phil" or Dr. Mehmet Oz's "Dr. Oz." In other words: Go forth, do good and get ratings!

On Tuesday's "Oprah," set for 9 a.m. (and 11:05 p.m.) Tuesday on Chicago's WLS-Ch. 7, Berkus and Winfrey will revisit some of his earlier work on her program and some of the people whose homes he has spiffed up to see how things have worked out.

All told, according to Harpo, Berkus has done 127 makeovers on the "Oprah" program since his first appearance on Nov. 13, 2002. Included in that figure are 27 bedrooms, 22 living rooms, 17 bathrooms and 16 kitchens.
The Chicago TV production community had been hoping that Berkus' show would be taped at Harpo Studios, home of Winfrey's own daytime show, which will be heading into its 25th and final season in the fall.

Instead, Harpo and Sony chose to put Berkus in New York, which is where "Dr. Oz," the other daytime show on which they team, is taped.

Besides appearing on Winfrey's TV show over the years, Berkus has a program on her Sirius XM satellite radio channel and was host of last year's ABC reality show, "Oprah’s Big Give" for Harpo
