Indy 500 qualifying has a new format in 2010 and promises more excitement at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Get the latest on Indy 500 time trials, pole day, bump day and more on Indianapolis 500 qualifying from FanHouse.

The 37 car-driver combinations have two days to qualify for this year's Indy 500. On Saturday, teams will attempt to qualify for the race and win the pole position.

The fastest qualifying time does not automatically win the pole this year as the nine fastest qualifiers participate in a shootout late on Saturday that determines the pole position and the next eight starting positions. Shootout drivers are guaranteed to start no worse than ninth position in the race itself.

Twenty-four of 33 positions will be set on Saturday. The second day of qualifying on Sunday -- Bump Day -- fills the final nine spots in the field of 33. When that is complete, the remaining contenders make qualifying runs in hopes of bumping slower cars from the field.
