Jim Gaffigan

On May 21 and May 27, two nationally recognized comedians, Jim Gaffigan and Rex Navarrete, will storm the Castle Theater stage at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC).

Known for his distinctive brand of sarcastic humor, Gaffigan has endeared himself to audiences in television, films and comedy clubs. This laugh-out-loud stand-up has appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” an unprecedented number of times.

Gaffigan may be familiar to you from his recent Comedy Central television special, CD and DVD, all entitled “Beyond the Pale.” Self-deprecating about his Midwestern roots and white bread looks, he considers himself a tourist as a New Yorker.

Don’t miss Jim and the “many voices” in his head on Friday, May 21, at 8 p.m. Irish fare from Mulligan’s on the Blue will be served on the amphitheater lawn beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Premier Filipino Comedian Rex Navarrete invites you to celebrate the release of his latest DVD, “Kosmik Organik” and promises to provide a much-needed respite from the doom and gloom of today’s headlines.

Navarrete’s first ever Filipino-American live stand-up comedy album released in the country, “Badly Browned,” was soon followed by “Husky Boy.” In these routines, he portrays his English-as-a-second-language teacher, Mrs. Scott, his Uncle Boy and Maritess the domestic worker, earning him a national following.

After Rex released his third CD, “Bastos,” he decided to take on producing and directing and made his first live stand-up concert DVD, “Hella Pinoy,” filmed in San Francisco. When he began touring internationally, sharing the bill with renowned Philippine vocalist Regine Velasquez, Rex became the most celebrated stand-up comic to perform to multiple sold-out shows in Manila, Hong Kong and Singapore. His next DVD, entitled “Badass Madapaka!,” took him on his Pacific Rim tour, and he now has his own TV series, shown on MTV Philippines.

Join Navarrete for a hilarious journey into the world of a comic legend in the making at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27.
